Geography Field Trip

Hello! Today was a lot of fun. We went on our first field trip. We didn’t go far enough to have Jerusalem out of our sight, but we drove basically all the way around it. The trip was called the Geography Field Trip because it was supposed to help us learn some of the geography of the area. It was way interesting. We drove around the city to various tall towers, mountains, and overlooks. We were able to see all of Jerusalem and the surrounding areas.

The saddest sight we saw was the wall that separates Israel from the West Bank. We got some excellent views of the Old City, the Dome of the Rock, Modern Jerusalem, and the surrounding cities (Bethany, Bethlehem, etc.). It was very cool. We were able to see the hills and valleys that make up the area. We saw several places in the West Bank where we will not be able to go. It’s so sad. We did see several places we will get to go too. At one of the places we went, we could even see the Dead Sea. It was way cool.

I’m starting to learn my way around a little more. Just in time to be stuck inside the Center for several days due to the celebrations in the city for the next few days. It’s both Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) and the beginning of Ramadan (the Muslim month of fasting) this weekend. They are expecting upwards of 270,000 people at the Western Wall and on Temple Mount. Crazy! I wish we could see some of the festivities, but fighting those kind of crowds, especially when it’s both Israelis and Palestinians, doesn’t sound like a good idea.

I wish I could send you all pictures, but that’s forbidden because of our low internet capabilites here. I hope things are going well for everyone. Have a great weekend!

Hello dear! It’s great to hear about your day and that you are doing well. I have seen you get online a couple of times for skype but I don’t think it’s you because you have to download skype, but somebody responded when I said hello. Any who, It’s incredible that you get to be there. You are so lucky! I’m so happy for you. I hope things are still going well when you get this.
Well, things are getting more comfortable here. I’m getting settled with classes and such. And my roommies and I are getting along. I don’t spend much time with them, but they are amazing all the same. I just found out I should probably be looking for a housing contract for next semester just barely :P Other than that I got nothing to report. Don’t worry there aren’t any engagements around here. :) Love you and miss you tons! TTFN
