Egypt Day 1

So, I decided to post about Egypt a day at a time. Cause that’s what I have time for. So, on the first day of our Egypt trip, we never got to Egypt. We just toured Israel until we were close to the Egypt-Israel Border (and actually very close to the Israel-Jordan Border as well).

We got on the bus at 6:30 am and headed south. Our first stop was Tel-Beersheba. Beersheba was an Israelite city that marked the southern border of the Israelite lands. A Tel is basically an archeological site. At Tel-Beersheba, there is a well that is traditionally believed to be dug by Abraham. The rest of the ruins date back to the time of the Judges. It was really interesting to see how an ancient fortress would have been organized. There was also an ancient water system. We were able to go down to into the cistern and through the tunnel that brought the water into the city. It was way cool.

After Beersheba, we got back onto the buses and headed to the Wilderness of Zin Overlook. The Israelites spent a lot of time in the Wilderness of Zin while they were wandering for 40 years. It was cool to get an image of what the wilderness looked like. It was extremely desolate.

After the overlook, we went to Kibbutz Yotvata to tour the Kibbutz. In a Kibbutz, the people live a kind of communal living. They share all their money and their food. It was very interesting to see how they live. Kibbutz Yotvata specialized in dairy. They had lots of cows. They milked the cows, packaged, and sold “milk in a bag.” My roommate Bekah and I have fallen in love with “milk in a bag.” We love the chocolate milk. It was cool to see where it was made.

After touring the Kibbutz we drove to another Kibbutz for dinner and then slept in their guest houses. It was a long day, but lots of fun.
