Day 6 started late at 8 am. We eat breakfast and loaded the buses. We went first to the Egyptian Museum. It was huge! Our Cairo guide (we had a guide in Cairo and a guide in Luxor), took us on a tour of the museum. He only gave us 15 minutes of free time, which was lame, but he had some interesting things to say.Â
We saw many artifacts from the old and new kingdoms. We also saw many of King Tut’s artifacts, including the gold coffins and gold jewelry King Tut was wearing. It was amazing how elaborate everything was. The Egyptians put a lot into their art.Â
After the museum we went to Hard Rock Café Cairo for lunch. It was a lot of fun. The waiters kept randomly breaking out into dance. The food at Hard Rock was slightly less bland than at most of the other places in Egypt. In Egypt we were banned from eating anything that would have been washed (like fresh fruits and veggies) and anything that had not been recently steaming. Thus we ate lots of pasta, potatoes, rice, and bread. Yeah for carbs. We decided we were all on a reverse Atkins diet. Well, the pasta wasn’t always terribly spiced or flavored. It got old fast, but that’s ok.Â
After lunch we went to a huge Bazaar. The bazaar had about 1200 shops. It was crazy. I only bought two thimbles, but other people in my group bartered for some nice t-shirts and jerseys. It was fun to wander around the packed square. As we had done the whole week, we put one guy with every group of girls (there are 21 guys to 59 girls in our group). The guys were in charge of guarding us from any unfriendly people in the areas we visited. The guys did an excellent job at this. They really are a wonderful group of guys.Â
After the bazaar we went back to our hotel for dinner and then we went to a sound and lights show at the Pyramids and Sphinx. It was fun. The sounds were extremely cheesy. There were voices telling stories about the pyramids and Pharaohs. The lights were really cool. I was in a good laughing mood that evening, so I thoroughly in enjoyed the show.Â
After the light show, I played Scum (a card game) in the lobby of the hotel with a bunch of students and then went to bed. It was a very fun and more relaxing day.
