We started the day bright and early as usual and loaded the buses to go to several Old Cairo sights. Our first stop was the Muhammad Ali Mosque. Muhammad Ali was an Ottoman commander who conquered Cairo in 1801. Muhammad turned Egypt into his own private kingdom, but ruled the land very fairly. His Mosque was beautiful. It had 1 large dome and 4 surrounding smaller domes. The room was beautifully painted and well taken care of. There was a very peaceful courtyard outside the Mosque doors. I really enjoyed our visit here.Â
After the Mosque we headed to several Christian sights in Cairo. The first was the supposed place where the Holy family stayed during their time in Egypt. I came off the bus and started listening to our guide tell us about the site, but I began to feel really weak and lightheaded. One of the guys in the group noticed and made me go back to the bus. I ended up sleeping for the duration of the stop. The sleep did me well, I didn’t feel lightheaded for the rest of the day.Â
After visiting the Christian sites, we went to have lunch at a little restaurant down on the Nile. It was a wonderful way to spend our last meal in Cairo. After lunch, we loaded the buses and started the long trek to Sinai. It was about a 6 ½ hour bus ride. We arrived around 7 pm, ate dinner, had sacrament meeting, and went to bed at 11. It was a long, but good day.
