City of David

On Wednesday, we went on a field trip to the City of David. The City of David is directly south of currently Jerusalem. At the city we saw a 3D movie about what the city would have looked like in David’s time. We then went to Area G, an excavation site where the ancient city walls have been found. After Area G, we went into Hezekiah’s tunnel.

The tunnel was dug to bring the water source into the city due to the pending attack of the Assyrians. The tunnel is over 550 yards long. There is still water in the tunnel. At the deepest point it came up just above our knees. Most of the time the water was at mid-calf. The tunnel was a huge engineering feat. It was started at both sides and the two sides met only 2 feet off. The tunnel has a perfect 2% decline the whole time. At the end of the tunnel, a few of my friends and I sat down in the water and then got in a water fight, so I got much more wet than the pictures show. At the end of the tunnel was the Pool of Siloam. The actual Pool of Siloam was discovered only a few years ago. Jesus sent the blind man to the Pool of Siloam to wash after He had anointed his eyes with mud. It was crazy to be where it actually happened. The trip was a ton of fun!
