Sunrise on Sinai

After going to bed at 11, we got our wake-up call at 1 am.  We crawled out of bed, got dressed, and went down to the reception area of the hotel for hot chocolate.  We then loaded buses and headed to the base of Mount Sinai.

Carlee and I

We started the day bright and early as usual and loaded the buses to go to several Old Cairo sights.  Our first stop was the Muhammad Ali Mosque.  Muhammad Ali was an Ottoman commander who conquered Cairo in 1801.  Muhammad turned Egypt into his own private kingdom, but ruled the land very fairly.  His Mosque was beautiful.  It had 1 large dome and 4 surrounding smaller domes.  The room was beautifully painted and well taken care of.  There was a very peaceful courtyard outside the Mosque doors.  I really enjoyed our visit here.

Pyramid

Day 6 started late at 8 am.  We eat breakfast and loaded the buses.  We went first to the Egyptian Museum.  It was huge!  Our Cairo guide (we had a guide in Cairo and a guide in Luxor), took us on a tour of the museum.  He only gave us 15 minutes of free time, which was lame, but he had some interesting things to say.

Rachel and I

On Day 5 we went to another one of the ancient wonders of the world: the Temple at Karnak. It was huge! It was a Temple built for three Egyptian gods: Amun, the fertility god; his wife, Mut; and their son Khonsu. Each Pharaoh the later New Kingdom added to this temple.
