On Thursday, we had our latest start of the Jordan trip: we didn’t leave till 745. We first went to the ruins of ancient Amman. There were ruins from many different ages. There was a ummayad mosque and a temple for Hercules. There was also a small museum that had many different things, including several small scraps of parchment found with the Dead Sea Scrolls.

On Wednesday, we based our touring out of Amman. We first went to Jabbok River. The river has been a boundary line between peoples for many years. It is also the site where Jacob wrestled the angel to win his birthright. It was one of the better looking rivers we have visited.

Petra!!!!
We woke up early on Tuesday to go beat the crowds in Petra. We got to the gates of Petra shortly after 7 am. There is a big open wadi (dry river bed) that you have to walk across before you get to the narrow wadi. The narrow wadi felt a lot like Southern Utah. Every couple of minutes, our Jordanian guide Eaab (who was with us all week), would stop and teach us something about the carvings in the walls or one of the giant tomb facades. Most of the facades were huge, but simple. On Monday, aka Jordan day 1, we woke up early and headed to the border. It was only about an hour from here. The border crossing went really smooth. We had some issues crossing into Egypt, but none on this trip. It was nice to have it go so well.

Jordan was.. amazing. We all loved the field trip so much. It was 4 days and it was really low-key. We saw cool things, but weren’t going crazy seeing things. We had a lot more free time. It was awesome. I really enjoyed it.  I’m going to search out some pictures of me before I talk all about the trip. Sorry, if this takes a couple days, but don’t worry. It’s coming!

Today, we had a model Passover Seder led by our Jewish Modern Near Eastern teacher. Our teacher is a mix of the current denominations of Judaism. He teaches at a reform seminary, attends a conservative synagogue, but lives an orthodox life.
